Hello! :) Welcome to the Samantha Walker blog hop. If you just left Jimmi's blog then you are on the right track. If not, you can begin the hop on Samantha's blog here. Leave a comment on my blog to enter for a chance to win a fabric bundle from Samantha's Enchanted Garden line...or Cowboy 2 collection with Riley Blake Designs.
This month I decided to play around with some of Samantha's fabrics. I am not a seamstress by any means, but I remember the basics from school and I can handle simple projects.
My first project is a sweet little pincushion, made just for my heart shaped Trinket Pins. The fabrics used on this are from Samantha's original "Wanna Be A Cowboy" collection. This collection is still in stores, but it's a little hard to find, as the line is retired. I found the Pink Small Flower print and the Stripe fabric at this online store. If you like these fabrics make sure to check out "Wanna Be A Cowboy 2" Samantha's new collection that will be available soon.
Here is how the pincushion was made.
- I removed the lid from the box and used it to cut a slightly smaller heart shape, that would fit inside the box. Then cut a strip of patterned paper (or cardstock) and cover the sides of the box.
- Next cut a strip of the striped fabric. Fold, then press one edge of the strip. Pin the folded edge to a length of pleated ribbon, then stitch together.
- Glue the raw edges of the strip to the inside of the box as shown (pic.3).
- Take the heart you cut previously and cover it with Poly-fil. Then cut a piece of the Small Pink Flower fabric that's large enough to over the stuffing and heart
- Cover the heart with the fabric.
- Use some embroidery thread to stitch the fabric together in the back.
- Next, cover a chipboard heart with the striped fabric and stitch around the edges. Adhere the chipboard heart to the center of the larger heart. Then stitch a large button through both layers of chipboard and Poly-fil.
- Fill the center of the box with styro-foam, or whatever you have on hand, then adhere the padded heart to the center of the box.

After watching this video on The Crafts Channel, on turning a pair of jeans into a skirt, I decided to try altering a pair of my little girl's cargo pants. I had her pick out a fabric from the Enchanted Garden line and she chose the Butterfly print, one of my favorites too.
Here's her new skirt
I added a matching belt...
and a few details to the pockets.

Now all she needs is a matching shirt! Hmmmm...I feel another project coming on! :)
